The home page now has pointers to the Knowledge Base, the DITA
Community, and to a summary of Administrative Content.
Administrative Content (see example) could be a top-level area that
would collect all items not reachable from the home page by a link to
the two content areas or by direct links (this would exempt About and
Contact).
In the Knowledge Base page (http://dita.xml.org/kb), there is an outline
and an attachment containing the list of articles, classified with the
previous generation of the classification scheme.

1. For pages that might be printed as handouts, a "first use only" rule
might still apply. I would not make a hard rule about not repeating the
expansion, other than limiting it to first use only when it does seem to
be
required.
2. In some cases, the standards link could be to a category page at
OASIS,
not a particular document. If the categories at the Documents area were
publicly visible and addressable, that would do it.
3. "Foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of small minds" or something
like
that. There will be enough OASIS links all over for someone to find
their
way there, I think.
4. Yes, let's get used to saying "the OASIS DITA Technical Committee".
We
want to avoid internal jargon and assuming that readers understand the
symbolic meaning of "DITA TC"--make it plain.

[dita-fa-edboard] Questions on
consistent references and links
As we start creating more pages, I'd like to briefly discuss a few minor
issues around consistent references:
1. Can we agree there is no need to spell out "Darwin Information Typing
Architecture" in the page text, as it will be in the header
graphic?
2. Do we want to link the first (or every) instance of "DITA OASIS
Standard" on each page to
http://www.oasis-open.org/specs/index.php#ditav1.0? What happens when
there's a DITA v2.0 OASIS Standard? If we want to link to the
standard, is there a link we should use that would be persistent?
3. Do we want to link the first (or every) instance of "OASIS DITA
Technical Committee" on each page to
http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/dita?
Note: "DITA OASIS Standard" and "OASIS DITA Technical Committee" links
will
appear in the footer of every page. Of course, we can't
expect visitors to always scroll down that far.
4. I strongly advise Editorial Board members to include "OASIS" in
references to the TC, (i.e., "OASIS DITA Technical Committee" not
simply "DITA Technical Committee") and to spell out "Technical
Committee"
unless it's really being used a lot on a page. Members of
the trade press don't universally recognize the acronym "TC", believe it
or
not.
