Thanks to Bruce for putting time into creating a graphic "button" that
others may use when posting links to the Focus Area. He's done a good
job of pulling all the elements together, but in doing so, do we have
too much going on for one button? As Bruce mentions below, the graphic
is large as-is, but making it smaller would make the text disappear.
It would be nice to offer a version of this for Focus Area sponsors
incorporating "SPONSOR" into the graphic, but that would be one more
level of complexity.
Can we consider deleting the "Darwin...Architecture" line? Is that
essential for the button graphic? (Of course, it will remain in the
header graphic on every page of the site.)
Maybe we should also consider not using the "XML.org" logotype, and
instead just a line of plain type "XML.org Focus Area" or "XML.org FOCUS
AREA" in the gold.
Any ideas?
Carol

Hi Carol,
Here's a button that combines all the elements.
It's a little huge for a button, but the text would vanish at a smaller
size.
The PNG file can be saved to a file and opened in any browser.
Let's get review comments on this and see where to go with it.
1. As a button, what should be included, excluded?
2. As a banner, what should be included, excluded?
3. What size should the button be?
4. What size should the banner be?
5. Would this layout replace the existing banner?
If you're thinking of using a similar layout for other focus areas, it's
important to figure out whether to include the expansion of DITA, since
different standards will have expansions that differ in length.
Since I'm using Corel, I didn't try to create an Illustrator export.
I trust their import functions more than the export functions.
Also, to export to Illustrator, I need to know the version and whether
it's on a Mac.
So let me know what form you'd like to use for your archival purposes.
Best wishes,
Bruce

Bruce,
I can't open this file, but I assume the attached Illustrator version is
what we need. I agree that option 3 is the best layout. We are calling
it the 'DITA XML.org Focus Area'.

Carol and Greg,
I recreated the header in Illustrator and am attaching a .png and .ai
version. Let me know if you need anything else.

Judy,
In the message below, it appears you agreed to deliver the work in
Illustrator. If there's a misunderstanding here, let's work it out.
We'll have the Drupal consultant working tomorrow on this, and we just
want to be sure he has what he needs to implement your design.

The originals for the logos were done in Illustrator. I will send you
those.

The point is that with a psd file, you create a text object, and later
want to edit that part/layer, you click it and Photoshop knows what Font
was used, what text color, what point size, what kerning etc. A jpg is
cast in 'bitmap concrete'
If you have Photoshop, can you please be sure to include psd files for
the originals?
