Or, to cast the middle part in a positive spin:
Use the following resources/pages/methods if you want to:
* ask technical questions at ["Forums", http://dita.xml.org/forum] <
follow this convention below
* sell something--post a Product <link> or Services <link> listing
* make an announcement--create a News <link> or Events <link> item

Blogs
In the short term, would it help if the "Post new blog entry" at
http://dita.xml.org/blog was directed to a page like this:
*****************************
DITA BLOGS is provided for people who want to blog about DITA on a regular
basis. Each DITA blog is a regularly updated journal made up of individual
posts shown in reversed chronological order.
Do not use this space to:
* ask technical questions--post those to Forums <link>
* sell something--post a Product <link> or Services <link> listing
* make an announcement--create a News <link> or Events <link> item
If you would like to share your opinions, observations, and experiences
about
DITA, please submit your blog here <http://dita.xml.org/node/add/blog>.

I agree with Don's suggestion below, although I hesitate to get into Drupal
customization. Let me see if I can find any alternatives.

I just now took a look too--I overlooked your earlier note. These both seem
elementary to me, so I don't think I can recommend either one over what we
have already.
All of these modules including the current one seem to encourage arbitrary
posts that have no relevance--the recent one about DITA and Nostradamus
really looks like trolling in the absurd sense. I think that having the
formalism of registering a blog name and having defined "spaces" would help
steer casual posters to the use of forums (which about 50% of the current
blog entries really belong in). By adding a prefix to a title (like my
"Daylights") helps make an entry something that stands out a bit more, but
categorization by that name would really be ideal, I think. Again, the
setup effort should be enough to make it worthwhile to repeat presence
posters (good) and discourage one-shot posters (noise in the spectrum).

Michael, Don,
I know we're not completely pleased with the way our Drupal site handles
blogs.
I noticed two new blogging modules at http://drupal.org/project/blogger and
http://drupal.org/project/blogroll. When you have a second, please take a
look,
and let me know if you think either of these would be an improvement for
us.
Thanks,
Carol
