RE: [dita-fa-edboard] RE: Possible article for the next dita.xml.orgsoapbox

If you use an image hosting site such as Photobucket or Flickr, you can put
in thumbnails that link to larger images (avoiding the PDF overhead if you
have the actual PNG at the desired size on the hosting site). Here, I have
a thumbnail linked to the column-width image--just imagine that it links to
the larger one that I don't have:

I agreed, but this is the best we can do with Drupal.

My only suggestion would be to also attach the article as a pdf and insert
a
note along the lines of "See attached pdf to view a larger version of these
images." Would that make sense?

Great! Images seem a little small though, it makes them a little hard to
read.
If anything can be done about it, it'd be great. If not, we'll live with
it.

Thanks!

France,
The article is posted at http://dita.xml.org/reuse-strategies. Please check
it
and make sure it looks okay.

I also created a new poll http://dita.xml.org/reuse-poll.

I've set up a Forum at http://dita.xml.org/reuse-forum to correspond with
the
article. Please create a post there, similar to the one JoAnn created to
jumpstart her article's Forum at http://dita.xml.org/node/1413#comment-71.
Try
to check back at least weekly to address any questions that get posted
there.

We're working now to change out the homepage <soapbox> reference.

France,
Hopefully, the Forum we create for your article will be used for
experiences
and opinions. I'll call the Forum, "Reuse strategies" -- unless you tell
me
you want something else.

There will also be space for readers to append comments to the end of your
article.

Seth and I are working on inserting France's graphics into those long white

Thanks for the poll question, Don. What would appropriate options for

-Extremely significant
-Somewhat important
-Not at all

The code section needs some TLC to allow the markup to actually show--in my
browers, I see long white gaps where the browser is eating the tags and
leaving
the whitespace.

A good related poll question might be: Of what importance is reuse to your
decision whether to use DITA?

As written, the question could apply to either a user or a seeker, and it
subtly suggests that reuse is in fact a significant reason why others DO
choose
DITA.

How about a related poll question?

Thanks,

Here is the article, in Word format.

Should it be reviewed by the TC before it is put online? What is the
procedure
to add it to the web page?

And big thanks to JoAnn for doing a very useful first editing round!!!

HI France,
Great! I think we want to run Bruce's article for two months. It started
the
1st of January. That means running yours beginning in March. I'm sure they
can
figure out how to accommodate some images but I'm forwarding this to the
editorial board for comments from Carol et al.

I believe I can address the subject of map vs conditions based on what I
have
in this presentation...

Two questions:
 * When do you need it?
 * Can I include images in the article?

Hi France,
We had a meeting of the editorial board for dita.xml.org

We are currently running Bruce Esrig's article on why specialization on the
home page "soapbox." We're interested in an article from you for the next
soapbox, based on your slide presentation on content repurposing. We are
trying
to make the article stimulating and provocative. The idea is to discuss the
idea of "when to use conditions"
and when to create a "new map."

Let me know if you're interesting in doing something on this topic. Look at
Bruce's article for an idea of length. http://dita.xml.org

Thanks for your help,
JoAnn
