Instituting stronger requirements for DITA XML.org bloggers

Please take a look at http://dita.xml.org/blog-start and let me know if you
think this would be useful.

If so, we could replace the link for "Post new blog entry" at
http://dita.xml.org/blog and replace it with

 Add to existing blog <http://dita.xml.org/node/add/blog>
 Start your own blog <http://dita.xml.org/blog-start>

Thanks,
Carol

Subject: [dita-fa-edboard] DITA XML.org Drupal upgrade

At last, the Drupal 5.2 upgrade is done. Please poke around the site a bit, and
let me know if you encounter any problems.

Some highlights:

1) Our new site blogs page http://dita.xml.org/siteblogs lists bloggers in
order of most posts and includes photos (provided the blogger has uploaded a
photo into his/her user profile). The option to name your blog is much more
clear on the user registration page. Current bloggers should edit their
profiles to add blog names. (I already did this for Don, just to be sure it
worked.)

I think now is a good time to look at the one-off bloggers and remove the ones
that aren't really blogs (and/or move them to an appropriate Forum). It may
also be a good time to institute stronger requirements for bloggers, as Bruce
suggested. Do we want to approve bloggers before we let them post? Do we want
to require bloggers to provide their real names?

2) "Recent posts" in the right column lists the top ten most recent posts. The
five most recent blogs are still listed on the homepage.

3) The Resource submit page features radio buttons to designate Resource type
instead of the old drop-down menu that users often neglected.

4) Freelinking works again, so using double brackets, [[word]], automatically
creates a link to a new page.

We still need to address some wiki content creation issues, but I think those
should be part of our plans to blend the Knowledge base and Wiki sections of
the site. REMINDER: Please review and edit Su-Laine's draft ToC and Categories
at
http://scratchpad.wikia.com/wiki/dita, so we can finalize this on Thursday's
call.

	        Next call:
	        Thursday, 9 August 2007
	        2:00 pm EST
	        +1 (605) 990-0700, access code: 562542*

Thanks,
Carol
