RE: [dita-fa-edboard] FW: OASIS Press Release to Announce DITA Adoption Committee

Su-Laine,
Thanks for raising these issues.

First, we shouldn't assume the meetings will be held on Mondays. At the first
meeting, the Committee members will decide when/how they want to schedule
ongoing meetings.

As far as mandatory attendance is concerned, keep in mind there are three roles
a person can hold on an OASIS Committee--Observer, Member, or Voting Member.
The matrix at http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/roles.php shows the
differences pretty clearly.

Basically, Voting Members count towards quorum and can vote on Committee
ballots (something I doubt we'll do very often with regards to DITA XML.org).
Committee Members become Voting Members by attending two consecutive meetings;
Voting Members revert to Members when they miss two consecutive meetings.

So you won't be held to a time commitment unless you want to vote on a ballot.
The only ballot the ODF Adoption Committee has ever held (I think) is electing
a new co-chair--and they've scheduled that three months out so everyone who
wants to vote can make a point to attend consecutive meetings.

Hope that allays your fears.

Carol

Hi Carol,

Do you have a sense yet of the time commitment that will be necessary
for voting members of the DITA Adoption Committee? If this follows TC
attendance rules then I guess meetings would be mandatory, which will be
a significant commitment. This would be especially challenging if
meetings continue to be on Mondays, which are often statutory holidays.

Adoption Committee

I just wanted to be sure everyone on the DITA XML.org EdBoard was aware
of the
upcoming press release on the DITA Adoption Committee. Please note the
quote
deadline of Wednesday, 16 July.

Oversight of DITA XML.org will transition to the new Committee, so
please join
the group as soon as you can. The EdBoard may organize as a Subcommittee
or
simply be a work product of the main Committee--that will be up to the
members.
I don't anticipate any major changes to the way the EdBoard has been
operating,
although I'm hopeful we'll attract some new participation and support
for DITA
XML.org.

Please contact me if you have any questions.

Thanks,
Carol
