This message is for those interested in participating in the XLF (Extensible
Log Format) Initiative. If you are not, please disregard this message.

MOMENTUM

I have received messages from 20 developers/companies from around the world
expressing interests in the XLF Initiative. Most surprising was the
readiness of the companies to adopt XML-based log format. We could very
well see XLF being deployed in products as soon as we spec is finished.
Perhaps even in operating systems <g>.

COMMUNICATION

JXML, Inc. has offered to host the XLF mailing list but it could take a
while to activate it so please have patience. We should use the XML-DEV
mailing list until then. I would like to suggest that all XLF related
messages should contain "XLF:" string in the subject line so that e-mail
filters can intercept reliably.

INGREDIENTS

About half of the participants are XML developers and the other half server
vendors. I believe we need to invite some of the web statistic analyzer
vendors to round out the group since I can not imagine them being very happy
with Common Log Format.

I am planning to invite them as soon as our mailing list is up and running
but I would appreciate any help in reaching them since not many of them are
on the XML wagon apparently.

HELP WANTED

We need two volunteers with good writing skills to serve as Co-Editors for
XLF.

[Gavin, I am not expecting you to volunteer because I know you are already
five feet under the DOM spec.]

SCHEDULE

With simplicity and practicality as our guiding light, I would like us to
have something we can submit to W3C within two months from now. Does this
sound too ambitious?

FINALLY

I will post XLF status once a week from this point onward.

Best wishes,

Don Park
CTO/Docuverse

P.S. A second message which opens the first thread of discussion will be
posted along with this message.
