Since GEDCOM is so widely deployed, wouldn't it be a good idea to have GedML
as "the XML representation of GEDCOM", and then to overcome the limitations
of the GedML/GEDCOM data model by developing an entirely new schema in XML?

This should make it easier to convert between GEDCOM and XML, and also give
the new standard much greater freedom.

(Disclaimer: I don't know GEDCOM at all, but have been a little thinking about
this lately.)
