   Names, Dates, Etc.

With all the focus on 'vertical' applications of XML, I'm a bit concerned
that the opportunity to standardize some key horizontal elements may be
past. Names, dates, and currency are typical items that are used in an
enormous number of applications but are represented differently all over
the world.

XML seems like a useful tool for addressing these complexities, if only
because of the ease with which its contents can be transformed into
whatever format you want. MathML has addressed the complexities of
mathematical notation - is there any similar movement for NameML, DateML,
or CurrencyML? Or are we going to be stuck with 50 different formats for
each of those?

Just curious.
