If you go to the XML Information Set Requirements [1] and look at
design principle #4, you'll see the following:
4. The XML Information Set specification shall include a non-normative
formal model that allows for machine testing and verification of
the information set.
Although it didn't make it into the first public WD, you can expect to
see this model in future releases, and it will most likely be
expressed in XML markup of some sort.
