I believe binary XML is inevitable.  XML, as a concept, is not specific to
text and certain applications will require binary XML for performance,
environment constraints, etc.  One caveat is that it is difficult to come up
with one binary format that fits all situations.

XML is already being compressed via modems as Andrew mentioned, but as
broadband use increases the compression factor will be lost.  Some might
argue that compression is not necessary when broadband is the norm but I
think not.  Waste is waste and bandwidth is like memory in that one can
never have enough.

I am with TimBL on the issue with binary XML.  WAP is all right but not good
enough for general use.  We need to put our heads together and squeeze one
out.  I think it should support exactly one namespace (just kidding :).
