I thought this might be interesting - http://www.syncml.org/ looks like
a pretty serious attempt to sort out PDA synchronisation with a
representation protocol and a synchronisation protocol, the whole thing
designed to work over any available transport, including email, http,
WAP and bluetooth...
It's got Nokia, IBM, Palm, Psion and others behind it, no mention of MS.
