The OED (an XML-like project, if not XML itself) is now online at
http://www.oed.com/
That in itself is cool. The fact that they think they'll convince Web
users to cough up US$550.00/year for single-user access on a slow
server, on the other hand, is just plain pathetic. I'll stick with my
old print edition and magnifying glass for a little while longer.
In the mean time, the Encyclopedia Britannica is free and, after the
initial glitches, now quite fast:
http://www.britannica.com/
Does anyone know what kind of markup technology they use behind the
scenes?
All the best,
David
