I should apologise for opening this can of worms (although if it
can't be opened here, where can it?).

I am happy to be persuaded in favour of schemata if it will stop
the thread :-) but my real objective was to kill the use of
schema as the plural of schema (as in "I have written three
schema today"), as that is merely illiterate nonsense. It's
unfortunate that the W3C docs use "schema" (singular) in several
places where it could be interpreted as a plural at first sight.

It would perhaps have been easier if the W3C doc had been called
"XML Schemas" or "XML Schemata" rather than "XML Schema" --
after all, we refer to documents about "XML Namespaces", not
"XML Namespace".
