   RE: [xml-dev] ServerXMLHTTP

[ Lists Home | Date Index | Thread Index ]

ServerXMLHTTP (introduced in MSXML 3.0) is a component based on WinHTTP
(and NOT WinInet). WinHTTP is designed to be thread-safe, scalable,
UI-less and is well suited for server-to-server or cross-tier
communication. In summary, for client side HTTP access, use XMLHTTP and
for server-side HTTP access use ServerXMLHTTP. Check out PerfectXML.com
MSXML Focus section for complete information on MSXML and technologies
that it support: http://www.PerfectXML.com/msxml.asp

Subject: [xml-dev] ServerXMLHTTP

Hi,

My query is regarding ServerXMLHTTP in MS XML 4. I'm
not sure this forum is appropriate for such a
question. If you think it's NOT appropriate, pl.
ignore this mail. My apologies.

Microsoft states that ServerXMLHTTP40, which is part
of MS XML 4 is designed for server applications and it
is a server-safe subset of WinInet without unnecessary
features [those features not needed for server
applications]. But heard that WinInet will limit
connections to a single HTTP server to four
simultaneous connections. Is this limitation still
there in ServerXMLHTTP40? I'm planning to use it from
an ASP which will use this component to open an HTTP
connection to another server. Usage of this ASP page
is quite high and concurrent connections of the order
of 50 or more can be expected. Is it OK to use this
component in such a situation? Any pointers in this
regard would be appreciated.

TIA
Badri
