RE: [xml-dev] Xml is _not_ self describing

One more off-topic example: as I type,
I am listening to Dil Cheez Kya Hai
from a recording of the soundtrack to
Umrao Jann (older movie from India).
I haven't a clue what the lyrics mean.
I enjoy it. That is meaningful to me.
I love the sound of Asha Bhosle and
the arrangement although Shahryar's
lyrics are only as meaningful as
they are "scannable" by my ear. I
don't get the micro details, but the macro
level of the drama is evident.

Then there are those recordings of
space noise which are called "music
of the planets" for which one might
acquire a taste, I suppose. I never
have.  IMO, the first is purposeful;
the second is merely labeled. So to
agree with Elliotte thus far, information
is there because someone put it there
for me to discover. The space music
is music only insofar as I accept works
such as those derived from Brownian motion
and other fractally manipulated
noise sources as self-organized.
