I once created a list of resources in this general
territory (a document with a monstrous title); see
http://xml.coverpages.org/classification.html
The document is not maintained, and I am not an authority
on 'taxonomies' in any respect. You'll probably get
some help there, though. I should add references for
'Published Subjects' from the world of Topic Maps.
Two new OASIS TCs have been proposed for work related to
published subjects:
Published Subjects for Geography and Languages (GeoLang TC)
Vocabulary for XML Standards and Technologies (XMLvoc TC)
