   bioinformatics, XML

Some interesting bits popping up.

My favorite bit:
-----------------------------
Perhaps commenting on Ewan Birney's earlier remarks about how he has become
unhappy with XML due to it's high amount of overhead, Lincoln quipped "XML
is the worst possible solution, except for all the other solutions." While
it is clear the overhead associated with XML can be problematic with some
of the huge datasets used in bioinformatics, it seems to be working like a
champ in DAS.
-----------------------------

For more on the concerns, see:

-----------------------------
One of his comments, that he is no longer so happy with XML as once he was,
prompted a question from the audience after the keynote. He expanded on
that comment, saying that he finds XML verbose (not a good thing when your
data sets are already huge) and that most often the schemas are poorly
designed and tools poorly implemented. When schemas and tools are designed
and implemented well, he approves.
------------------------------

That last bit doesn't seem too surprising.
