As I said, you can do it in many ways. Having to read through a whole
bunch of XML in order to find the end doesn't seem to me to be
particularly simple--let's just say that we may disagree on this.

Well, regardless of the usefulness of XML, it seems prudent to decouple
concepts that don't have to be coupled. A type parameter seems to be an
easy way to do that in this particular case.
