One of the best in this respect is the Architag X-Ray editor. It gives you
no structural help, but it's validating all the time, apparently
incrementally. An invalid or ill-formed bit of text causes no action except
an unobtrusive but easy to see notification. It never tries to reformat
your text or do anything on its own but still keeps track of the validity of
your work. DTD only, though.
