   RE: [xml-dev] Technical Book Slump

[ Lists Home | Date Index | Thread Index ]

As we say in the music business, "don't quit your day job, kid".

Books are for most of us, I guess, a side income.  Last year I managed to spend
all of that on the music equipment I needed to restart my solo gigs.
That was good for the tax man, but the bad news is that the book editing
paid better overall.  Book writing isn't the only income that took a hit as the economy
tumbled, but I bet the rates will bounce back faster there than they will
for music gigs. :-(

But no one smiles at me, tips me, buys me meals, takes me to parties, or offers me free
beer for books, so I'll just have to live with it, I guess.  :-)

There are signs that sales are beginning to pick up again now. It wouldn't surprise me if some authors who were hit by the slump don't take on any more authoring - it is much simpler to just do regular consultancy, or even take a job. :) You know what work you are doing for what return.
