I did precisely the same thing. I moved a good amount of wikitext
to an XML for wikitext, then XHTML, then back to wikitext and
managed to throw away some clunky XSLT for good measure in favour
of some simple java1.4 regex code.
I think the fact that wikitext /is/ what you edit a wiki in, should
have given me a clue before I undertook such a mindless munge...
