You are typing markup and haven't yet added an angle bracket or a close tag
or a semi-colon to a character reference. Or more significantly, you have
only typed half the structure ( e.g., you still have five close tags to go).
It will be well-formed when you get done, but you are still typing.
In other words, any editing that doesn't insert an entire, well-formed
skeleton into your document at one go.
