Quotes from the proceedings
(more at http://www.mulberrytech.com/Extreme/quotes.htm)

If the overloading of processing instruction syntax to represent the version
of XML, the document encoding, and other metadata seems strange, overloading
a processing instruction as a link to another resource seems even stranger.
/ Quin /

[CRA] is capable of modeling overlapping ranges of data, which XML and most
typical markup languages disallow. / Nicol /

[W]e need to work with, rather than against, a diverse set of markup
languages. We need tools and techniques that tackle the hard problems that
arise when information is represented in a different form from the one
that's required, and these tools and techniques shouldn't rely on an
all-embracing conceptual model being available. A metric for similarity
between markup languages (or parts of markup languages) might help. /
Tennison /

There are plenty of tools that allow authors to create XML documents,
defining their own tags, DTDs, and Schemas.... The FOA authoring tool sets
out to provide an improved authoring environment for styling XML documents
using XSL-FO styling markup. / Giannetti /

Our experience suggests that there is no particular difficulty in
implementing production-quality print output using XSL-FO, with one key
exception: back-of-the-book indexes.... The solution [we] developed is
completely generic and should be applicable to any document type for which
indexes are required. [It] has been implemented for the following
[non-Western] national languages.... / Kimber /

best,
Kate
