I don't think so, actually. Ancient conquerers typically didn't want to
impose their language and culture on the conquered: it just paid for
the conquered to learn. Writing Coptic in Greek letters didn't make it
one bit more intelligible to Greeks, but for Egyptians who weren't scribes
it was a powerful technology.
