So long, fair well, auf weidersehn, good bye

[ Lists Home | Date Index | Thread Index ]

My typing mistake. It was 1993 when I started Empowering You! (I was
self-employed selling computers to large corporations back then, but I
was selling multi-user Macromation computers and using CPM (there's a
'/' in the name some place, but it's been so long that I forget where),
not Windows 3.1.)

I've been thinking about this all day. And now the xml-dev responses I
am getting completely confirm my decision. I have decided to stop
responding and stop trying to help people in the xml-dev list on-list.
Just being me and just having a company name of Empowering You! is
disruptive to your xml-dev list. No, I'm not changing the company name
for those people that object to it. And no I don't think I should be
asked to stop using my company name below my name. Others who write
books also put a tag line on their email here, so I don't think that's a
big deal either. My tag line is much smaller than many peoples'. (just
look at Ann's email, one of the people complaining about mine, and
you'll note she has her company name, website, and tag line also.(see
hers below)) But it seems to be a big deal in this list, and it bothers
me to continually cause problems just being here.

So this is my last email to the list.

I will still be listening and if I think I can help someone and no one
else is helping you, then you might get an off-list email with my
suggestion. If you don't like it then delete it and email me that you
don't want to receive any further emails from me and I won't email you
again to try to assist you.

Now, please get back to regular xml-dev discussions. I'm gone so there
is no need to talk about me or Empowering You! or the horrors of
enjoying Microsoft and .NET. I am, as usual, eager to hear your
discussions and enthusiastic about learning from you all. No hard
feelings on my part and I hope none on yours. Best of luck to ALL of
you (not an exaggeration this time either) :-) in your xml-dev
adventures!

(Microsoft, you can still send me that $10000 check I asked for in my
last email. But even if you send it, sorry, I'm not going to go back to
responding in the xml-dev list. Just wanted to be fair and tell you up
front before cashing the check I know you want to send to me just for
being me. (I find it hard to believe some of you probably still think
I'm a Microsoft employee.))

Thanks,
Pam

There's a little thing in most emailers called 'personalities', or
something similar. The ability to use that (and therefore use a personal

name, vs. a business name for email) on list correspondence --
especially
in places like xml-dev, would probably be beneficial. Here things *are*
personal.
