I don't get that.  Domain knowledge to parse? 
It required the DTD by standard, but that was 
often ignored.  What SGML did not have was a 
data model.  Some claim XML doesn't either.

But SGML does not require a knowledge of the 
meaning of the tags to parse.  It required 
a fat parser if it used a lot of features.

SGML required domain knowledge (knowledge about
tag meaning) to be able to parse a document. This is
something that XML 1.0 fixed, and ConciseXML
shares that same property.
