Boring is music written by committee. They
are oompah walzes. X- ML X- ML X- ML. 3/4 time
to nod land.
A useful core technology should be boring. It
should be a checkmark on a checklist that once
checked can be forgotten.
Until it fails. Then it gets exciting. Core
tech shouldn't fail.

As far as boring goes? I know people who claim character encodings are boring
(they are all Latin1 speakers). What is boring and what is exciting is
highly personal, and varies (both ways) with how much exposure one has
had to the subject.
