   Re: [xml-dev] Extending anyType

[ Lists Home | Date Index | Thread Index ]

Extending xs:anyType is certainly allowed -- it's a complex type
definition, so it can be extended. You're right that extending a
mixed type definition with a non-mixed one is an error, and XSV finds
it:

  <schemaError char="4" line="3" phase="instance"
               resource="extbad.xsd">
      attempt to extend a mixed basetype
      into an unmixed type or vice versa (None, anyType)
  </schemaError>

Note you have to run XSV locally with the -i switch to get it to check
a schema document thoroughly -- running the web form on a schema
document simply confirms that it is schema-valid per the sForS, but
doesn't check the constraints written in to the REC.
