   Re: [xml-dev] FW: ezmlm warning

[ Lists Home | Date Index | Thread Index ]

I've had two "bounce warnings" in the last two months and I'm still here
receiving messages.

This is just an example of what is wrong with the mailing list program. My
ISP bounced two messages bounced in the recent past, two out of probably
hundreds successfully sent before and after those bounces. My ISP was
probably going through maintenance or something small crisis like most small
ISPs do.

Yet ezmlm is threatening to remove me from the list if a single probe it
sends bounces. Chances are the probe will not bounce, but if it does, I am
going to get unsubscribed 'without further notice'. More reasonable policy
would be to monitor for a week and deal only with those that consistently
bounce. It is unreasonable for ezmlm to expect 100% uptime from my ISP nor
is its warning helpful at all since there is nothing I can do about it.

Best,

Don Park
Docuverse

Hi! This is the ezmlm program. I'm managing the
xml-dev@lists.xml.org mailing list.

I'm working for my owner, who can be reached
at xml-dev-owner@lists.xml.org.

Messages to you from the xml-dev mailing list seem to
have been bouncing. I've attached a copy of the first bounce
message I received.

If this message bounces too, I will send you a probe. If the probe bounces,
I will remove your address from the xml-dev mailing list,
without further notice.

I've kept a list of which messages from the xml-dev mailing list have
bounced from your address.

Copies of these messages may be in the archive.

To retrieve a set of messages 123-145 (a maximum of 100 per request),
send an empty message to:
   <xml-dev-get.123_145@lists.xml.org>

To receive a subject and author list for the last 100 or so messages,
send an empty message to:
   <xml-dev-index@lists.xml.org>

Here are the message numbers:

   21059
   21060
