If you find a public tool for slides in SMIL please let me know so I can
add it to our Walk-the-Walk page (http://www.mulberrytech.com/walkthewalk.html) which does list two SVG-based slideshows and several XML->HTML slideshows. (Perhaps one of those would give you a good starting place.)
