As API, you could use a SAX ContentHandler, which is quite
lightweight. The methods are very simple, for example startDocument(),
startElement(String namespaceURI, String localName, String qName,
Attributes atts), etc. For your usage, this does not require building
a DOM at any point. The method calls can directly output text. But at
least you have a slightly higher-level API that gives you the notion
of elements, namespaces, etc.
