For any diehard XML 3D declarative simulation junkies, the following
http://web.nps.navy.mil/~brutzman/DeformableSurfacesTechnicalReport2003Novem
ber.pdf
has become available. This is a good introduction to
X3D and its application in very large distributed simulations.
It also includes discussion of such applications as terrain
and building deformation, XFSP-derived network protocols
and corresponding binary file formats, how prototypes
are used to extend the language, a comprehensive overview
of the X3D profiles such as H-Anim, and other goodies.
At about 209 pages, it is a long read but an excellent resource
as this is a deep and comprehensive description of X3D and its
applications to web-hosted distibuted simulation.
