IBM did demonstrate this during Rod Smith's keynote at XML 2004 and they
are using XQuery.  At least that is what they demonstrated.  If I am not
wrong, they also demonstrated a rudimentary XQuery builder that did
break during the demo.

I agree with that.  It is an interesting release, and 
hopefully someone with experience with the alphas can 
tell us.
