1. The document is not fully self-describing, since it depends upon some
otherwise agreed-upon meaning or at least prescription for using the terms
actor, action and object. If these terms were just tokens with no such
association, it would be hard to distinguish between John 'shot' Roger and
John 'was shot by' Roger. It is not clear whether the intent was that some
of the more specific terms, such as 'shot' and 'purchased' were to be known
to the receiving application also, or whether they were just supposed to be
tokens.
2. There might be large numbers of documents all described by the same more
complicated grammar than that presented in the example. Probably
performance of this kind of system would be inferior in some ways to one in
which the grammar was not transmitted and parsed each time.
