Speaking of Z80, the Timex Sinclair was notable for 32 wide by 24 high 
text layout. Since the character set included all the variations of 
filled/unfilled quarter characters, one could do "graphics" at a 
resolution of 64x44 (the bottom two row s were reserved for system use.) 
Still, it looked pretty poor on a TV screen.
