I knew you were going to say that :-) And you're right. But the
unpleasant reality (of my life anyway) is that people LOVE to
over-analyze things like this and propagate memes and fads that
suggest that what we might think of as tried and true is "dead",
"lame", "so 20th century" or whatever. One of my duties (hobbies?) is
to keep track of all this.

Yup. I wouldn't be astonished if AJAX-style apps move away from XML
the way they have shunned WS-*. My guess is that this is specific to
the AJAX, etc. domain and not the sign of a larger scale move away
from XML, but obviously I don't really know.
