   RE: [xml-dev] XPath question (in .NET)

[ Lists Home | Date Index | Thread Index ]

Ok, here is a crude example:

a simple xml document

	<?xml version="1.0"?>
	<Test Name="Im a parent element">
		<Child Name="Im a child element" Attribute="another
attribute"/>
	</Test>

C# code, .NET framework 1.1

	XmlDocument xmlDoc = new XmlDocument();
	xmlDoc.Load("test.xml");

	XmlNodeList foundNodes = xmlDoc.SelectNodes("//*[contains(.,
'element')]");

	if ( foundNodes.Count > 0 )
	{
		for ( int i = 0; i < foundNodes.Count; i++ )
		{
			this.tbOutput.Text += foundNodes[i].OuterXml +
"\r\n\r\n";
		}
	}
	else
	{
		this.tbOutput.Text = "No nodes matching";
	}

"No nodes matching" is printed when this is run, even though both elements
have the text "element" evident.

Dont know if im overlooking something very obvious, or if its something to
do with the 1.1 framework.

You still haven't shown us what the XML document looks like.

In order to determine what the output should be, we need to
see not only the XPath expression, but also the document
against which the query is being executed.

If you've tried it from within Stylus Studio, you could be
using either the XPath 1 or XPath 2 engine. The former is
based on our internal engine, and the latter on the Pathan 2
open-source engine - see http://software.decisionsoft.com/

You could also ask this question, if it is within the scope
of Stylus Studio, on the *free* Stylus Studio Developers
Network, at http://www.stylusstudio.com/SSDN/

If you decide to ask your question there, please include the
*exact* version of the software, from the Help|About menu
option. And you can attach the input document as well.
