Yes. It wants Java so it doesn't download a plugin browser for the X3D.
Platforms aside, it is the use of the X3D model and the information and
navigation that are simple, easy and an effective presentation. In the
current zeitgeist, much is made of the 3D worlds, immersion, worlds as
operating systems, etc., but the basic application that takes one model and
explains it simply and with some drama is very cool for kids and others. As
I look at the youTube site and others, the small packaged presentation that
Just Works (well... java isn't a threat to world peace yet), is the way to
go these days when content is the intent.
We all deserve more. ;-)
