Hi Dmitry,
The XQuery 1.0 and XPath 2.0 data model spec became W3C
recommendation on 23 Jan 2007. So it's a relatively new spec. I think
implementations do not exist as of date, which have a concept that a
XQuery program operates on a data model constructed from a RDBMS. But
I hope such implementations will come by.
The spec doesn't constrain implementations about how the data model is
constructed.
The XQuery implementations which exist today commonly construct the
data model instance from a XML infoset or a PSVI.
