1) What field? Conceptual modeling in XML? Philosophy of science? XML
for business modeling?
2) There may be different paradigms in a field of research, each with a
similar but not equivalent ontology. So even if the concepts are clearly
defined in a paradigm, there may be differences between paradigms. This
is perfectly acceptable. Read up on Thomas Kuhn. The concept information
is typically equivalent to data in computer science, but in information
modeling/requirements engineering information is interpreted data. In
the former field, this distinction is seldom interesting, whereas in the
latter the distinction is important since, for example, the context in
which the data is used provides information. In software testing,
defects (or bugs) are used, whereas in the dependability community
faults are used instead. The concept of fault subsumes defects.
