Skonnard&Gudgin, Essential XML Quick Reference (free download):

There you may find examples for exemplar-based, procedural and declarative
transformations.

Since XSLT variables don't vary, are all XSLT programs declarative?
Surely that's not the case.
Would someone give an example of XSLT code that is clearly imperative?
