Users often don't make that distinction. I'm used to people thinking that everything they do with Xerces is "parsing". My personal favourites are "I use the Xerces parser to write XML" and "I'm having problems with the SAX parser I wrote" where they really meant that they have an issue somewhere in their application's SAX ContentHandler. I used to correct them but tend to just answer the question they should have asked with more correct terminology.
