I used the W3C HTML Validator directly from Opera browser. I have now
also tested validator.nu and the problem is exactly the same.

You cannot validate XHTML5 without "application/xhtml+xml" or similar.
And you have no way of validating an HTML5 document if you would like
it to be well-formed and to use lower-case for element and attribute
names.

My conclusion is that it is almost impossible to use XHTML5 for the
above practical reasons. I am going to use it, I will find a way, but
it is not realistic that XHTML5 will get any traction with such
huddles.
