I've just been involed with 3 different companies all using S1000D for
their newest deliverables. these include Air Force, NavSea and NavAir
deliverables. NavSea has efforts to standardize around a toolset and
NavAir is building the NSIV viewer for their standard implementation
environment. I don't know what percentage of use is out there, but it
seems that new efforts at least make an effort to go S1000D. With so many
systems lasting years though, paper and other mil spec efforts far
outweigh the S1000D implementations.

I also just came back to the defense world having left the CALS efforts
around '96 and was surprised to see that things hadn't really changed. It
seems with S1000D there is a hope of doing this right with more people
than just the defense sector designing and implmenting the approach and
tools, so that seems to be an improvement. I am surprised at the state of
IETMS and the various tools and approachs taken (S1000D or other).
