At that point, you’re talking about what HyTime called “architectural
forms”; i.e., regardless of what this element type has as a name,
treat it as though it were *this*.
The most high-profile use of HyTime archforms in the XML world is
XLink, which (in terms of adoption) is also the least successful of
the trio of initial “SGML-on-the-Web” proposals (XML, XLink, XSL). So
take that for what it’s worth.
