I'd hope that most of the people here, at least in this thread, are
familiar with it. Although in the context, perhaps it's worth reminding
people also that strictly speaking Perl's regular expressions are not
really regular expressions (and arguably not expressions but that's
another story).
I don't think I'd recommend writing an XML parser using Perl's regular
expressions, but it's not entirely clear that it's an impossible feat.
The perl documentation for "perlre" has an example that matches a
parenthesized group, matching the parens.
Hierarchies break down under pressure :)
