Word of the day: Transfer Syntax

Hi Folks,

Example usages of the term “transfer syntax”:

The empty set: in the XML Schema transfer syntax, this can be written <xsd:sequence/>

The null set: in the transfer syntax: <xsd:choice/>

An expanded name: in the transfer syntax, <xsd:element ref = "QName"/> or <xsd:element name = "NCName">

[Definition] Transfer Syntax: The XML syntax used when transferring data.

I made up that definition. Is there a better (clearer, more complete) definition?

The example usages come from Michael Sperberg-McQueen’s paper [1].

/Roger
