It’s not only the resource’s server. We’ve found with XSLT testing that the same test can pass or fail depending who your ISP is. Some ISPs, if they get a 404 response from a server, substitute it with a friendly HTML page saying something like “This domain is for sale. Only 3s 6d per fortnight. Buy Now!!!”. Well, not quite that perhaps… But if you want to test that your client app can handle a 404, you’re stymied.
