I'm not sure I understand the full extent of the issue discussed in that blog post (the web has become ... complicated in the last 20 years), but this looks like exactly the sort of problem that XMLNS was designed for (ahem!).

I know from personal experience the sort of headaches that XMLNS can cause, but they seem as nothing to the sort of pluck-out-my-eyes solution that that post is clearly ambling innocently towards. What big angle-brackets you have, grandma...
